1. Measure the first article against the approved drawing
The report should identify the drawing revision, material, mold number, cavity where relevant, machine, date and measured critical dimensions. For toleranced features, a result without a clear datum or inspection method may not be enough to support production approval.
2. Define what the golden sample represents
A golden sample is a physical reference for an agreed condition, such as color, texture, gloss, gate vestige, parting line, ejector marks and acceptable cosmetic level. It should be labeled and protected so the same reference is available when later batches are inspected.
3. Include assembly and function, not only dimensions
Check snap fits, screw bosses, sealing surfaces, connector insertion, flatness and fit with mating parts. A housing may pass dimension inspection but still fail when electronics, fasteners or the opposite shell are assembled.
4. Release production with a controlled record
Production release should connect the approved sample to the material lot, machine range, key process parameters, inspection frequency and packaging requirements. If a process, material or mold change happens later, the buyer and supplier should decide whether re-approval is required.
