Injection Mold Warranty and After-Sales Support

A useful warranty is a working process, not a vague sentence in a quotation. Buyers and mold suppliers should agree on scope, maintenance evidence, response steps and repair responsibility before the purchase order.

1. Define exactly what the warranty covers

Identify the mold number, cavities, supplied hot-runner system and accessories. State when coverage starts and whether it is based on time, validated shot count or both. The agreement should define intended resin, fillers, cycle range and production conditions. Separate defects in design, material, workmanship or purchased components from process misuse, unauthorized changes, corrosion, accidents and normal wear.

2. Link warranty to a realistic maintenance plan

Mold life depends on cleaning, lubrication, cooling-water quality, vent maintenance, alignment checks and replacement of wear components. Agree on maintenance intervals and simple records before shipment. If production stays with the mold supplier, clarify who owns routine preventive maintenance. If the mold transfers overseas, the receiving factory should receive drawings, component lists and maintenance guidance.

3. Use a complete issue report for remote diagnosis

Support moves faster when the buyer provides mold number, cavity, cycle count, resin batch, machine, process settings, photos, video, defect location, dimensional data and recent maintenance history. Record when the problem began and whether it follows one cavity, one material lot or one machine. This evidence helps separate mold, process, material and handling causes before parts are shipped internationally.

4. Agree on response and repair responsibilities

Define who receives the issue, expected acknowledgement time, technical review path and approval needed before any modification. State whether repair will be completed at the production site, at a local tool shop or after return to China. The contract should allocate labor, components, freight, customs and production-loss responsibilities for covered and non-covered cases. Avoid promises that do not define evidence or authority.

5. Plan spare and wear parts for critical tools

For high-volume or schedule-critical programs, prepare a risk-based spare list covering ejector pins, springs, seals, heaters, thermocouples, switches, gate inserts and project-specific wear components. Long-lead standard parts should be identified by supplier and part number. Spare cavity or core inserts may be justified where downtime has a high cost. Keep the list linked to the final mold drawing revision.
