Overseas Buyer Guide

Overseas Injection Mold Project Management

Good project management makes China injection mold sourcing safer. The buyer and supplier should keep RFQ files, DFM decisions, mold design approval, T1/T2 results and quality records visible from the beginning.

Overseas injection mold project management

1. Complete RFQ files reduce misunderstanding

Before quoting, send STEP, X_T or IGS files, 2D drawings, material, surface finish, annual volume, tolerance requirements and target schedule. Photos of current samples or similar products also help the engineering team understand the visible surfaces and assembly function.

2. DFM decisions should be recorded before mold cutting

DFM review should cover wall thickness, draft angle, ribs, screw bosses, undercuts, gate location, parting line, cooling, venting, ejector layout and assembly risk. For overseas projects, written confirmation avoids re-discussing the same points after mold machining has already started.

3. A clear timeline should separate design, machining and trials

Injection mold projects normally move through RFQ, DFM, mold design, steel purchasing, CNC/EDM machining, fitting, T1 trial, correction, T2 trial, sample approval and pilot production. Each stage should have expected dates and responsible actions.

4. T1/T2 communication must include evidence

Photos are useful, but they are not enough. T1 feedback should include sample status, dimension checks, appearance issues, assembly results, process notes and proposed correction actions. T2 should confirm whether previous issues were closed without creating new problems.

5. Production approval should protect future batches

After samples are approved, pilot production helps verify cycle stability, quality inspection, packaging and repeatability. Keeping approval records makes reorders easier and reduces disputes when production resumes later.

6. Start with a drawing review
